Best backyard for bullies

I'm just throwing this out there....here's the story...we live in New Smyrna Beach, FL, and the hurricane left our backyard pretty trashed. So, we need to have it re-landscaped, preferably with little to no grass, other than a small area or path for potty purposes. I'm hesitant to install cement due to the heat factor. Don't want my girls paws to burn. I'm wondering about mulch. But I'm concerned about Violet chewing and eating it. Anyone have any good grass alternatives that has worked for them?
I'm going to run away if I have to mop my floors daily for much longer

The best possible outside turf for any dog will always be grass. I don't think you'll have any issues with laying down mulch for landscaping around trees or bushes. I have yet to see a Bull Terrier eager to eat mulch but a young BT or puppy will be prone to put anything in their mouth.
