Catching up a bull terriers weight after illness with raw ?

Ok so Teddy is deffinately due a growth spurt or is having a surge of hormones he is 6 months 1 week . He has just got over a tummy bug called clostridium perfringens he lost a bit of weight and now he's putting the weight back on ( still a bit to go ) he is going crazy over food! He is being fed over the guidelines to catch him up , help him feel full and due to his energy levels . He is fed a natural complete food only very lightly steamed in cans its pretty much the nearest thing to raw you can get without being raw it is made by a raw food company called natures menu and i was wondering about changing his supper up occaisonally to a raw mince ( one of the natures menu free flow minces it contains the muscle meat , offal and bone in it in the correct ratio) with some dark leafy greens or sweet potato , egg etc would this help him feel full and put weight on ? He will not touch dry kibble but will devour any wet food , push his bowl round and barks and does a dance when he sees cans of dog food infact anything sloppy and smelly ha! Thoughts ? Should i just bump his food up a little or add a proper raw meal ?

If you want to give the weight gain a little boost, Harriet, you can temporarily add a few teaspoons full of lard or coconut oil or other high quality plant oils, such as hemp seed oil, linseed oil or rapeseed oil to provide more energy with every meal.
If he seems to be hungry all the time, you can feed him some bigger pieces of raw meat instead of the canned food now and then. Big chunks of meat keep the stomach busy for a longer period of time than ground or canned. So with the big chunks he will feel full longer.
Other than that sounds like your little one is eating better food than many humans. :)  :)  :)
Great to hear that he is going through such a quick and good recovery.
Definitely keep him on his supplements, if he currently gets some. His immune system can use every support it can get right now.
  • Thanks @djammy he costs me a fortune , Hes a bottomless pit he is never full i swear hes half labrador! I will give the coconut oil and bigger chunks of meat a try im just so glad he is making a recovery and looking a lot better and we can get back to training he only has a fibre probiotic right now but i am looking into finding a good immune booster available in the uk  . Thankyou!
  • If you find one (in the uk)  can you post it please,  there seems to me a less developed market place there
