Grass eating machine.

Hope this In Right category.

Idk if anybody else has this problem. Nvr seen a dog eat this much. He's like. Lawn mower. We spend the majority of the time outside. Wether in the back yard or at our farm. But seems like every time I turn around he's eating grass.
It don't seem to bother him. I've heard the theory that they eat it and throw up but he nvr vomits. Just eats it. Idk if it's a nutrition thing or a ocd thing. Bc he can be a tail chaser too. That's getting better the more I wear him out.
Any ideas. I'm not to worried he seems to be fine. Just wondering if there's something I'm missing. Thx

Often times dogs will eat grass to aid in the digestion of their food. One of my terriers, (not the EBT, although I'm sure he will at some point...), eats grass and then vomits. Not all dogs that eat grass will vomit, but the main reason they do eat grass is so that they can better digest their food. Maybe your dog is having trouble digesting the food that you feed him currently, or it could be that he is eating the grass to meet some kind of nutritional need that his food is not satisfying.

What type of food are you feeding him now? Is he provided any type of supplement?

I choose diamond naturals bc it's a decent food that is no wheat no corn and no soy.

Seems to be a decent food for less then a dollar a lb. I can't see buying some of these other food that are 2 to 3 or even 4 dollars a lb. insane to me. Thought this was a happy medium between price and quality. Helped his skin and coat a lot. No more feet licking or coat dandreff. Poops got smaller. I assumed bc he was using the food and not just passing it. Gets a egg two or three times a week with breakfast. Coconut oil twice a week. And gets raw beefs bones from butcher all the time.
This is our second summer with him and I did recall him doing it as a puppy too when he was on different food. Seems to be only when grass is green kinda thing.
Treats are all dehydrated deer chop chunk. Just plain.

Diamond Naturals is a decent food with good nutritional value. Yes, there's better foods but as you mentioned it's priced very good for a 4 star food.

Food shouldn't be his issue but there's obviously something going on that makes him want to eat grass in the fashion you mention. This is also a very difficult thing to find an answer for because there could be hundreds of things triggering his need to eat grass. It could be a bad habit, something upsetting his stomach, lacking some sort of vitamin/supplement his body needs, OCD, stress, etc.

  • So I guess if there's no visual signs of problems from it I just let it go. Guess it won't kill him. He passes all of it in very small pieces.
  • I to have the same problem. When trying to walk Puma I'm constantly pulling on her because she is always stopping and eating grass. She rarely vomits either.
