Food Hog!

Our Maya thinks it's okay to eat from everyone else's food bowl, except hers! We try to feed them all separate, but when we do, half of them will not eat! They will eat when they are together, but we have to monitor and watch closely, to make sure that things do not get out of hand! Suggestions to make them eat their own food out of their own bowl!!!!!

Good luck with that. During times when they are eating their natural instincts kick in and the alpha dog will often try and use dominance to ward off the less dominant in order for them to get the most food possible. The best thing you can do is supervise during meals and ensure bowls are put up when a dog walks away from one. I've got a couple bullies that would love the opportunity to jump back and forth from bowl to bowl and be even more excited to see a dog leave their food and be afforded the opportunity to eat their left overs. I don't give my Bullies this luxury because I know it will become a habit. When I see one of my Bullies finish their food I tell him to leave the room. If Bullie walks away from their food I take the bowl away knowing they'll eat it and more during their next meal.

We had that problem with Rex. It takes a lot of watching and dicipline. My wife Has a morkie so she eats small amounts all day. Rex eats two bowls a day. Ebt seem to be very big food hogs compared to others. He was always eating her food. It took along time but he no longer touches her food. He knows it's not his. All we did was just watch. Every time he would try to eat or would eat it he would get a spanking and kennel him. When he got out I would show him her bowl and tell him no it's not his etc. after the bold stage he would try to sneak bc he knew he wasn't supposed to. He would even eat quietly so he wouldnt move the bowl and make noise. Same thing punishment givin. Eventually he quit all together. I'll leave him in kitchen lets says while I put the kids to bed and I'll come down and he won't even touch it. This worked for us. Idk if it will for everybody. Took a lot of time and watching but like everything with a bt takes time and repetition.
