Does anyone else's BT drink water like a horse?

edited August 2014 in Bull Terrier Character
If I'm on the phone, people always ask, "Gee, what's that noise?"  It's like a huge horse drinking like it hasn't had water in a week.  It's soooo noisy.  After he drinks, he walks away and it's like a water faucet draining out of his mouth, even though his mouth is closed, for a good three or four seconds.  I'm not sure he's even getting much water.  I don't recall my first BT making noise like this or dripping, and I don't think I've ever heard another dog make this much noise drinking.  When people are around, they break into laughter.  I'm not sure he's a BT.  I think he might really be a tiny pony.

Sounds totally familiar. They're not called "Pig Dogs" for no reason. :) Actually I don't know how horses sound or act when drinking, maybe the Bullies should better be called "Horse Dogs". :)
When Djamila is drinking, I can't hear my own words while standing & talking right beside her. Once she's finished I get a hearty slimy mouthful over my foot, because she likes to poke me friendly after drinking. The rest of it drips on the kitchen floor, LOTS of it - no need to say, I often have to wipe it. Sometimes she also releases a hearty burp subsequently. Honestly she often sounds like a human with no manners. But the Bullies also sound like that when they sleep and snore. Fancy was the same. If you're not completely repelled by it, it's kind of a funny trait. :)

If you could just watch Rocky drink water just one time you'd be saying, "WTF?"
He puts his whole muzzle in the bowl and makes so much noise and mess around the bowl it isn't even funny. After he's had his fair share he will walk into the living room trailing about a pint of water leaking out from the sides of his mouth. It's right about that time he will greet me or my wife at the couch by putting his wet mouth on my leg and drying all the remaining water from the bottom of his mouth on the edge of the couch leaving a nice big wet spot. Once he walks away after soaking my leg and couch and getting a scolding he's pretty happy about himself. It's his signature move that he thoroughly enjoys. It happens daily and I don't think he wishes to change his etiquette. :P

  • LOL!  Both of your comments have me cracking up laughing. It's EXACTLY what happens here.  It sounds like it's not only a common trait, but they even wipe their mouths.  I have wet knees all day long.  Thank you both for making me laugh.  I like how when I'm patting him gently, very gently, after he's drank some water, it's that loud burp like a baby when you pat their backs after a feeding.  It's the water like a faucet, though, as they're walking around with their mouths closed that looks so funny.  It' doesn't seem possible and it feels like my eyes are tricking me.  Such funny creatures are BTs.  The people that they own ('cause no one owns a BT) are some of the coolest people around, too.
  • When I am at my parents', we can hear Quinn drinking from the bowl upstairs all the way down in the basement. At my place, I've had to buy a new tray for underneath her waterbowl with raised edges because more water ends up around her bowl than actually in her mouth. And of course, she does like to drip half of the water on my knees as well. 8-|
When she gets really hot, she'll kind of "snorkel" in the water...sticks her whole head in a deep bucket or bowl of water and kind of chomps at it and licks what comes off her face. And if there's ice in the bowl? Forget it. She's eating every cube and all the water and no one can stop her!
  • Yep, same at our house. Smurf trails a small stream of water from her snout after every drink, not to mention splashing vigorously. Her main water dish in the kitchen, plus 2 "auxiliary" water bowls around the house, depending on where we might have to contain her, all of them sit upon a towel, none of which do much good. Now she has taken to jumping in the bathtub after anyone showers to capture the last few warm drips from the faucet that may pool around the drain--even though one of her water bowls is 2 feet away with COLD water. Every single time someone opens the freezer door to get ice, she appears, no matter where she may have been, to beg for a small cube. She also loves to chase her tennis ball, then drop it into her water dish before returning it, sopping wet.
  • Just to join the MISS DID THAT EVER SINCE SHE FLEW IN........ its hard to believe that these little shorty CAN DRINK SOME WATER. Slurp slurp
  • I haven't experienced this with Maya, but my parents lab/border collie mix does this, it's hilarious! Except for having to clean up after him!
  • Claxxton is very messy with his water.  I keep a towel on the floor in front of the stove to mop it up.  I have a wood kitchen floor.  Willie on the other hand is very neat with water. mbgood sounds like you have your hands full.  Lol
