My boy wont eat he is beyond super picky

I am bending over backwards to get my boy to eat and he wont eat much unless its human food which he gobbles down in seconds. I have tried switching foods within the same brand with not much success maybe a few days if that. I then tried blue ridge raw puppy mix which was working and now he wont touch. He is going on 11 months and only 44 lbs which is almost 10 plus lbs less then his brothers. Is it common for a Bull Terrier to be this picky? I thought all dogs love meat but my boy is so damn picky. He will eat veggies, scrambled eggs, and bananas on a consistent basis. Any suggestions on what to try next?

Actually that's to be expected if he's used to table scraps and hand fed people food. One of the hardest things to refrain from is giving in to a begging Bull Terrier with sad eyes that is lurching from a far with sad eyes while you eat. There's no question your Bullie has been spoiled with table scraps from everyone in your household. I can say this because there's no way a Bull Terrier would refuse a bowl of food without getting finicky about certain foods and accused to getting fed throughout the day at different hours.
There have been a few other discussions on this same exact problem and I've provided my advice as to correct the problem.

You have to get him on a normal regiment of eating. Do NOT leave a bowl sitting out for him. Get him back in the swing of knowing when it's time to eat, "It's TIME to eat." Otherwise the food is taken away until the following day. STOP all table scraps and hand feeding.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. I am currently feeding him twice a day morning and evening. If he does not eat his food i pick it up and he goes without which doesnt seem to bother him. He is so picky that during training sessions i have to switch up treats because he wont even eat hotdogs two days in a row or chicken breasts. He does not get many treats aside from peanut butter in his kong to keep him busy and only gets a few table scrapes but not enough to keep him full at all. He is completely healthy and will play for hours so i would assume since he burns so many calories he would ravage every piece of his food.

Are you mixing anything into his food or is it just dry kibble?

  • Mixing into his food scrambled eggs, cooked ground beef, shredded lunch meats etc. He will then eat some of his food but mostly just what I mix in and leave his dog food.

Try cutting him down to one meal a day until he gets his appetite back. He'll eat if he's hungry but he's been spoiled with many treats and table food. He'll get back on track when he learns to appreciate his scheduled feedings again.

  • Boyda's suggestion has merit. When my wife boils her chicken we keep the stock and mix it in with her kibble and Wellness wet stew. She really likes the beef, venison, & lamb variety that Wellness has.

When I had this same conversation with Steve via personal message a few weeks ago, his suggestion of a variety, with each day being a different taste or flavor seems to work with us as well.
