AKC Registery

Curious as to how many Bullies here are AKC registered?

Reason I ask is I ran across an ad for an EBT with limited
and full AKC.

What’s up with that?
Obviously I’m behind the times…I thought it’s either AKC or not.

    That should read "bullies" :-S
  • Our beau is kc registered were uk never heard of limited kc registered here? We got a record of 5 generation either side of beaus family
  • Hope I can put the link up http://www.akc.org/reg/limitedreg.cfm I looked into it from what I can work out the parent dog is registered but pups can't :-S
  • Full AKC would mean includes breeding rights. With limited, the dog is registered but no puppies out of him/her can be.
  • I forgot about not being able to show with limited registration in AKC. The CKC does it a bit different and dogs are registered with a non-breeding agreement. They can still be shown as long as they are intact.
  • If it is limited registration, they can or cannot be shown in AKC and non-AKC events as long as they're intact and conform to the breed?

If it is limited AKC, is that a forever situation that they cannot be bred, or can the breeder grant full registration based upon reaching an agreement in the future?

I'm still finding it confusing and want to be very clear before I get a puppy.

Boyda, the 2 that are AKC registered (and Atiba, yours that is AKC registered) is that full?  The one in transition, is that limited becoming full?  Sorry to ask for clarification, but it's all new.  I've never had anything other than full AKC registration, and all were family pets never bred.

There.. the operative words are "pet vs. show".  So if one is buying for a pet, then the AKC shouldn't be an issue (?) .

Not too much to add to this discussion as Boyda's comments summed up the jist of it.
This subject actually came up a couple weeks ago. Here's my explanation: http://www.bulliesofnc.com/BTforum/discussion/comment/11411#Comment_11411
As far the importance of having an AKC registered dog here in the United States vice another kennel club my oppinion would be that it's very important regardless if you're looking for a pet quality BT or not. The reason I say this is because the other kennel clubs lack proper justification for registered dogs. As a matter of fact in the event a breeder is banned from AKC they can simply go with any of the other clubs, in the event AKC registration is pulled from a dog due to erroneous DNA results they can simply get papers through any of the other clubs, as aa matter of fact to get papers through CKC you just need to submit photos so they can tell what breed it is and deem it a "Purebred." Earlier we talked about the puppy Kaiser who's parents are different breeds according to AKC, one being a Mini and one beeing a standard. AKC would never register a puppy of this nature but CKC will have no problems with it. By the way when I mention CKC I'm referring to the Continental Kennel Club not the Canadian Kennel CLub which is much the same as AKC.
Anyhow if you look into where 90% of the dogs that come from puppy mills and unreputable breeders they are registered through other fly by night clubs. The next time your at a pet store and see the dogs for sale ask if they're AKC. Rarely will you see one.
For health reasons alone and verifiable pedigree I'd be ensuring any dog bought here in this country is AKC.

  • Thanks for the clarification.  I know I've seen something else, I think it was UKC, that sounded like a similar thing to CKC.  We've owned two dogs, a BT and a Corgi, both AKC registered with good bloodlines.  Both were full registration and were female, but we had them spayed since we weren't planning to breed them.

After talking with Steve, I immediately got on their waitlist.  It is extremely important that a pet that will be in our home and part of our family have an excellent temperament and health.  While I had never heard of limited before, I think it's a good thing.  Frankly, future BTs and their owners owe Steve and other top quality breeders a debt of gratitude for keeping the bloodlines pure.

Since the kids are away at college and I'm almost fully recuperated from my accident, I'm tempted to find out more about local dog shows once we get a puppy.  I'm glad the limited can be lifted if we ever decide to do that.
  • Both of mine have been registerd thru the AKC.
  • Brutus and Cleo are AKC registered as well.
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
  • Full reg thru AKC for our pup.
