Teaching pulling

How do I teach Brutus to pull using a pulling harness?? he can be coached on a lead and if you keep telling him hes a good boy his tail wags and he can easily pull the sled but is a bit skittish. is their a correct way to do this????

bring out a toy that he wants very bad and coax him with that, do it in slow times, have him go 20-30 feet or so than give him the toy and praise him, keep it short and sweet and make a big big deal out of it, get really excited when he gets done. Give him a command like "work!" so he knows.

i want a weight pull harness for Cesar sooo badly! but its not in the funds atm, looks like bowser's having alot of fun with it!

The one I have is made by Dean and Tyler nice thick material with control lupe and one d ring centered with one on each side I bought it on Amazon for like 50$ .. is this a two man job cause I'm having a hell of a time trying to do this by myself.....I think if I could get my husband to hold him and then twirl the flirt as stick and call him across the yard I could get him to do this.......I will keep you posted am gonna try it in a bit:)......

do you have weight on the sled? If he is still hesitant to pull it you may need to start with something even smaller, perhaps a water bottle with rocks in it, than a gallon jug with rocks in it so he can just get used to the command, and the act of something behind him.

Ok the consensus is the dog is nuts!! We started with a sled and a rock and he pulled it like it was a fly on a rope so he graduated to a tire within the first couple rounds the flirt stick definnately motivates him as I had his full attention and he pulled it with little thought.. I used a truck tire and I think that's plenty for a while....was a ton of fun for all and great exercise for him:)) win win!!!!

He sounds like a tough Bullie with some determination. In a quick period of time he's already towing a truck tire. That's Awesome! ^:)^

Hes the most head strong dog I have ever meet, until Bowzer:) his pray drive is out of this world.. I hadn't thought of a competition, my husband joking said we should enter him into the worlds strongest dog comp petition:@!!! How do I find competitions in Michigan??? Who do contact anyone know?? He seems to love it!!! The first day we tried this we used my kids sled with him on it and it was just my husband out their and he didn't have a motivator and I was running in and out of the house trying to tell him how to get him interested but Brutus just wanted to follow me back in the house when I went but did pull it when I would walk with him... yesteday I stayed out their and had his stick and he took to it immediately!!!! The rock was getting threw around on the sled when he stoped and banging into his hind legs and was super easy for him so we got an old tire out and drilled a metal ring in it and that allowed us to even out the weight as well with one rope on each side.. great idea and soooo much fun!!!!!

try to look for pit bull clubs that do weight pulling, or any club for that matter.

Thanks for the info!! here in michigan these clubs are either a well kept secret or not advertised at all!!! i am starting to think if i dont have a cuddly poodle im sol.. :-q

Here's some better pics and Cleo decided she wanted in on the reward with the stick:) By myself I have a hard time getting him to stay until he's called. We will be working on that but he does love this!! :-c
