New Member--Mini Bull Terrier

Hello all, 

I am new to this forum. My wife and I just got our first Bull Terrier (Maximus). He is registered as Miniature Bull Terrier. We have had him 2 weeks today and he is now 14 weeks old. We got him flown in from a breeder in Texas, and I have been reading several discussions for a few days now. Therefore, I thought it was time to join!! Here are a few pics as of today! Any comments are appreciated!

Thanks for the comments! Yes he is an amazing little guy but like I have read, they tend to be very stubborn. I am reading a lot in the training and obedience section. 

So tomorrow is his first vet appointment. Im excited to see how much he weighs. I hoping he's on the bigger spectrum of miniature bull terriers. Because I originally wanted a standard but my wife wasn't digging a 60 lb muscular canine. I currently have him on a BARF diet and TOTW. I like the stocky look on BT so fingers crossed.

Congrats! Invest in good items to chew on, their lil' jaws can chew through anything.... Like kitchen cabinets.

Yes chews on everything. He is getting better with the help of rawhide and lots of toys. Btw, will this chewing completely stop when he reaches adulthood?

@MiniMaximus Okay, so not the same.  I am expecting my little guy from Melissa at Sunrise Mini Bulls.

He's a cutie. The chewing is common at this stage because he is teething. You will see it slowly decrease once his adult teeth come in at around 5-7 months. For now get his some small puppy chews to curb chewing anything else.

He will test your patience so find ways to occupy him.

Welcome MimiMax.    If you like him to be stocky, hang him a tedder ball.  And a basket ball for the ground.  Our female got very stocky (muscle) from chasing the balls.  But you will have to raise the tedder ball as he learns, because he will get higher & higher.  Our female goes for the rope at the top of the ball.  As she got higher, she would just hang there.  So you got to raise it.

Hey.  I'm getting a mini from the same breeder this weekend and was wondering how the health of little guy has been and if there is anything out of the ordinary.  I'm so paranoid about puppy mills and poor breeding that I hope I went with the right breeder.  I'm picking him up directly but have already put down a deposit so I hope everything looks kosher when I get there.

Hopefully MiniMaximus reply's to you with some helpful info but it's been several months since they've posted so they may not be avid users of the forum.

@ncomes - I just googled your breeder to view their website. the first thing I wished to view was their health guarantee which brought serious concerns to me. http://www.bullterrierpups4sale.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=34

They actually don't have much of a guarantee at all unless your puppy was to die from a genetic disorder. They only provide a 1 year health guarantee and speak nothing about guarantees against genetic disorders. They are also expecting that you get your puppy to a Veterinarian for a checkup with 48 hours after purchase in order for their guarantee to be effective. Most Vets won't even schedule you in within that time frame.  I'm sure they must realize this. It's obvious they do not conduct proper genetic testing on their breeding stock nor thier puppies and don't feel confident enough to provide a bonafide health guarantee against genetic disorders associated with their bloodline. This would be a concern for me. I bring it up only because I'd hate to remain silent when I know there are many breeders being very sneaky with their verbiage in regard to health guarantees and their responsibilities towards standing by the puppies they produce with pride and confidence. I hope you read the link I provided in my earlier post.

I did ask them about the requirement of getting the puppy to a vet and let them know they can't expect that to happen in that time frame.  They were understanding and said they were very flexible with that.  I have that in text conversations with them so I hope that holds up should (god forbid) anything happen.  I had concerns initially because their site seems very much to be geared towards making money and not so much about just producing good healthy bullies.  I'm essentially locked in at this point as I mentioned I've already put down a deposit.  This is one of the only forums I found that someone actually got a puppy from them so I was hoping the poster is still active and could give me some feedback. I'm not worried about getting a show quality bullie but, certainly want a healthy dog that's able to live a long healthy life.

The available puppies have very bad saddle markings. They don't seem to be breeding to better the breed, but to make money. I see they say they only sell as pets and not for breeding or showing but still.

I mean no disrespect as the breeder we got our puppy from gave him to us a week and a half early, it just seems like now that I hve him I have a want to better the breed. I don't know much and still learning but I still want to better the breed.

I know when you get your puppy it'll be the love of your life :-)
