Brooklyn Update..LOL
Well, since I talked to you good folks last,
Brooklyn has been to her 2nd obedience
class and done very well indeed. We were both bored out of our skulls though
and I asked the trainer later if we could please do more DOING and less TALKING
ABOUT DOING. J I
had to invent “potty breaks†for my dog so we could go outside and walk around!
Brook would take just so much of us sitting around on stools and make her
displeasure known by letting loose with something I can only describe as the
call of a bull elk! Sort of a scream/whistle combo. LOL<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Brooklyn has also had another
adventure involving water. She got fancy
on the lil footbridge leading over to the pond island and of course fell right
in. Jeez. She was smart enough though to swim alongside the bridge to the edge
of the pond and hop out rather than doing like some dogs have by trying to get
back up on the bridge itself. Dogs can’t do that as there is nothing for their
hind feet to get hold of, just water. She impressed me by figuring that out right
away, long before I reached her to fish her out if needed. Good girl!
At one point in my search for a Bullykid
I was moaning about the lack of a dog to cuddle with (ACD’s do not cuddle, they work.), remember? One that would hang out with me rather than
going off in search of tasks to do. Well, I got my wish! I now have a bully companion who not content
with lying BY me (which is what I pictured earlier Pre Brooklyn) but instead
one who prefers laying ON me thus turning simple things like
reading/bird/turtle watching/drinking coffee etc into an Olympic Sport! She not
only lies on my lap (right on my book naturally), or for extra points, drapes
herself across my shoulders while I am on the couch or out on the lawn swing
trying to accomplish something which needs quiet and a steady hand. She IS
very cute though.
She has learned LEAVE IT and Keep OFF(translation, Do not
jump into a lap which holds a Pizza!); SIT and DOWN, STAND and now STAY in all
3 positions. This is of course a work in progress. hee, hee... Today we are working on
GO AROUND, which means for her to GO from whatever door she is at (there are
four doors here) and of course she can be at the front door watching me while I
am at the computer and must go to a "named" door where she can come in. We have just
started so I know it will take a while as being a Bullykid she has not the
inborn focus of “herding†or “rounding upâ€. She’ll get it though…like me, anything for a
treat! LOL
Happy to be back and can’t wait to
catch up on what everyone is doing! Slow progress with my Brother in Vegas…he is improving
in tiny baby steps and the progress is heartbreakingly slow. But it IS progress.
I am so glad to have Brooklyn to keep me
occupied! I cannot believe that leaves are falling! Where did the summer go? Sonja & The Furkids
